Jobs

JOBS FOR OUR FUTURE
We, the people, hold the keys to unlock the talent and leadership necessary to restore and grow our national and local economy. Nationally, we are struggling to find solutions to resolve the recession that has hit us hard. In our communities, we’ve been hit even harder than most.

Over the past ten years, our 17th congressional district has lost tens of thousands of good manufacturing jobs — jobs that  supported families and communities for generations. Our unemployment rates are among the highest in the state.
The jobs are gone.

FUTURE PROSPECTS:

Some of our leaders–those we elected to represent our interests–watched those  jobs  walk away. They could have done more, They did not. They are fine. We are not. Failed leadership and failed policy results in failed government. We can, and must, do better. We need strategies for creating good jobs paying decent wages.

Here is what I will do in Washington to reestablish strong communities supported by decent jobs:

  • Strengthen Economic Policies: I will advocate for economic policies that support families, communities and small businesses.
  • Insider Trading: I will vote to end the insider trading of favors and money with our tax dollars that leave us — the people — out in the cold.
  • Main Street Investment: I will work for policies supporting investment in local banks and small businesses.   Small businesses are necessary for reinvigorating our economic base. They create and sustain jobs. Local banks have been there for us. We must be there for them.
  • Technology Investment: I will work to develop and implement new  technology in our communities, including green energy innovations that will provide sustainable jobs for our future.
  • Labor: I will work with our Trade Unions to provide leadership around re-booting our manufacturing base. Labor is the backbone of America’s industrial strength. Good jobs, paying decent wages are essential to our economic recovery.
  • Education and Job Training: We need skilled workers who have the capacity to compete. I support investing in education and training that will pay future dividends many times over.
  • College Affordability and Access: We need access to affordable higher education. I am a strong supporter of programs that reduce the cost of higher education and provide opportunities for students to go to school and to graduate.
